The Next Big Thing is a one-hour show on KALX-FM (UC Berkeley) that features demo tapes and cassette-only releases instead of the usual vinyl and CDS. The show was started back in 1984 because a lot of good music was being sent to KALX on cassette but not getting played due to the format. Now that alot of bands release their demos and even their actual albums on CD-R or online, these days the show is a CD-R show.

Some easy rule-of-thumbs to follow:
1. Whatever excites you, go do it.
2. Whatever scares you, go do it.
3. Every time you’re making a choice, one choice is the safe/comfortable choice, and one choice is the risky/uncomfortable choice, the risky/uncomfortable choice is the one that will teach you the most and make you grow the most, so that’s the one you should choose.
